Wellglade Respond to the Red2

It appears that Premiere may be facing some competition on the Red2 from October 2010. “Midland General” – a subsidiary of the Wellglade Group (which incorporates TrentBarton) have registered the following route, with the interesting service number of 99p (and a clue as to the potential fare…):

1. PB1040823/4 – THE MIDLAND GENERAL OMNIBUS COMPANY LTD, MANSFIELD ROAD, HEANOR, DE75 7BG
o Registration Accepted
o Starting Point: Nottingham Broadmarsh Bus Station
o Finish Point: Nottingham Broadmarsh Bus Station
o Via: Cotgrave
o Service Number: 99P
o Service Type: Normal Stopping
o Effective Date: 11-OCT-2010
o Other Details: Monday to Saturday

In addition to the above, TrentBarton are currently running a promotion on the Cotgrave Connection, Radcliffe Line and Bingham Xprss where up to 2 children travelling with a fare paying adult can travel for free. All Radcliffe Line and Xprss vehicles are also now carrying stickers advertising recently reduced weekly ticket prices on the Bingham-Radcliffe-Nottingham route.

My thanks to the Travel East Midlands forum, and user ‘kinch899’ for brining the 99p route registration to my attention.

  3. I noticed that Premier’s fleet took a turn for the worse following the introduction of Red2, with some X9 operates with truly grotesque vehicles, assumedly due to a general shortage of spares. They do seem to have disappeared again though. I wonder if a registration from a Wellglade brand to run a Broadmarsh – Bunny – Loughborough service 5 minutes ahead of the X9 is on the cards?

    • I’m not as I am at all comfortable with this. My initial comment was a little tongue in cheek. Premier seem to have made a pretty good go with the X9. I guess it is more a statement by Wellglade, than a real desire to operate the route.
