Au revoir, Veolia – Again!

Just glancing at todays VOSA registrations, Veolia Transport have submitted cancellation notices for the 8 (Worksop Town Service), 9 (Worksop – Mansfield), 34 (Tuxford – Worksop) and 83 (Gainsborough – Worksop) services with effect from the 31st July 2011.

This is presumably the final day of operation of the original contracts won by Veolia from Nottinghamshire County Council in July 2006, which were to run for five years. The remaining contracts, centred on Retford and Tuxford were surrendered last year, the work being picked up by Yourbus, Travel Wright and Stagecoach.

About trentsidetraveller

A lifelong public transport user, enthusiast and occasional photographer. My travels take me around the country, occasionally overseas, but my most frequent journeys see me cross the River Trent on a regular basis. So the moniker of Trentside Traveller came about, and now I'm blogging about my travels, and the latest changes to public transport in the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire area.

  1. And according to the yourbus facebook page, they are also taking over most/all of the Veolia North East operations.

  2. It appears from the latest notices and proceedings that Veolia have moved an operation centre to Trent Wharf (subtenant of Premier perhaps):

PB1096124 SI VEOLIA TRANSPORT ENGLAND PLC
    Director(s): VINCENT BECH.
COMPLIANCE DEPARTMENT, UNIT 1. HEOL CROCHENDY, PARC
    NANTGARW, NANTGARW, CARDIFF CF15 7QT
Removed operating centre: ABBEYFIELD ROAD NOTTINGHAM NG7 2SZ
Increased authorisation at existing operating centre: ALDWARKE ROAD,
    PARKGATE , ROTHERHAM S62 6BZ ()
New authorisation at this operating centre will be: 99 vehicle(s),
Increased authorisation at existing operating centre: HETTON-LE-HOLE
    HOUGHTON LE SPRING DH5 0BG ()
New authorisation at this operating centre will be: 99 vehicle(s),
New operating centre: TRENT WHARF, MEADOW LANE , NOTTINGHAM
    NG2 3HR ()
New authorisation at this operating centre will be: 12 vehicle(s)

The question is I guess, why do they want a presence in Nottingham – where they now don’t operate at all (except an endpoint for a long distance service)?
