Interconnect 9: Update

Following on from a previous posting I made regarding the withdrawal of the Interconnect 9 (Skegness – Mablethorpe) on Sundays I feel it’s very important to put the record straight.

I made assumptions that the service was actually carrying on from the Lincolnshire County Council cuts back I’m April, in a funded capacity. This was not actually the case and Stagecoach had continued running the service commercially after that period and throughout the summer season.

It’s obvious Stagecoach had data of usage during previous winters and knew they couldn’t continue running the service without financial support after the end of the summer timetable. (Service funding was approx £36k 2009/10 and £32k in 2010/11 according to Lincs County Council FOI request by Lincs Travel BlogTT).

So the big question now is do Stagecoach think the service is viable enough to return next summer on Sundays and if so, could interworking with the 1 (Skegness to Chapel St Leonards) be a better solution rather than running the services along the same route with uncoordinated timetables? I for one hope the route will return, if only for the summer.

  1. A little curiosity that I have spotted on the Stagecoach in Skeg pages… service 1 (Chapel) to run hourly on Boxing Day & New Year’s Day, and 2 journeys each way on the 6 on both days too

  2. Thanks Dan, yes I noticed yesterday the alterations to services for the festive period are now available for the Stagecoach East Midlands area.

Skegness-Ingoldmells-Chapel No.1 & Interconnect6 Lincoln-Wragby-Horncastle-Spilsby-Skegness are the only routes operating both Boxing & New years day in Lincolnshire. (however Scunthorpe’s circular town service 31A/32A IS available Boxing Day but not New Years Day)
The Lincoln guide fails to mention Interconnect 6 running both Boxing Day & New Years Day.
Interconnect 6 will provide two trips each way & the no.1 running hourly untill approximately 6pm. This I find odd. One thing, the No.1  running till 6pm when Sunday’s the last is 17:35 & IC6 running two trips. (All worked from Skegness by the looks of the timetable).

Over in Nottinghamshire, Stagecoach mention in the Mansfield guide that Pronto will also run on Boxing day & New Years Day. Possibly it’s trentbarton whose running these journeys?
