Following on from a previous posting I made regarding the withdrawal of the Interconnect 9 (Skegness – Mablethorpe) on Sundays I feel it’s very important to put the record straight.
I made assumptions that the service was actually carrying on from the Lincolnshire County Council cuts back I’m April, in a funded capacity. This was not actually the case and Stagecoach had continued running the service commercially after that period and throughout the summer season.
It’s obvious Stagecoach had data of usage during previous winters and knew they couldn’t continue running the service without financial support after the end of the summer timetable. (Service funding was approx £36k 2009/10 and £32k in 2010/11 according to Lincs County Council FOI request by Lincs Travel Blog – TT).
So the big question now is do Stagecoach think the service is viable enough to return next summer on Sundays and if so, could interworking with the 1 (Skegness to Chapel St Leonards) be a better solution rather than running the services along the same route with uncoordinated timetables? I for one hope the route will return, if only for the summer.
